Jon Mark Beilue spent 37 years at the Amarillo Globe-News before retiring in 2018. The last 12 years he was the newspaper’s general columnist where he frequently wrote about social issues, especially on those related to homelessness. Prior to that, he spent 25 years in the sports department and his 17 years as sports editor from 1989 to 2006 was the longest tenure at the position in Globe-News history. Beilue received 16 awards statewide and nationally for his writing in both news and sports. A native of Groom and graduate of Texas Tech, he is active in numerous spiritual and civic groups. Beilue is currently president of the board of Another Chance House and has been part of the Neal Unit prison ministry team from First Baptist Church for 11 years. He and wife Sandy, a retired teacher in the AISD, have two adult sons, Blake and Chad.
