Bags of Hope (or Barrels of Hope) is a service opportunity provided by Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle. While normal donations are still received and welcome, we wanted to provide groups (such as churches of all faiths, youth groups, faith formation classes, Mom’s groups, businesses, etc.) with a service opportunity that is easy, convenient, flexible, and fruitful.
Everything that you need for this service project is available to you. You are able to check out the number of bags that you agree to fill with the one of the donation categories. In addition to the bags, we also provide a Bags of HOPE toolkit that includes information about the program that you are donating to, prayer and scripture suggestions, and an outline for a “Social Concerns” Teaching.
Because Bags of HOPE can be done anywhere, it allows your group to meet at your normal time and place while still enabling you to give! Just check out the bags to get started!
Through this program we are able to accommodate almost any size group. Groups are able to check out anywhere between 20—500 bags at a time. Don’t forget to ask about our barrels. You can also choose the kinds of items you want to give, as well as what program you would like those items to go to! We want to tailor this service opportunity to fit your group!
You can be guaranteed all of the donations you raise or purchase will go directly to those we serve. Your contribution truly impacts the lives of our clients and participants!
You’ve worked your whole life. You’ve never been late on a bill and you take pride in your work. But, after an accident at work, you can’t seem to make ends meet. Being on disability is hard. After spending hours deciding which bills you are able to pay, you discover you only have $25 leftover for food and medication for the month. Then you remember the Hunger Project Grocery Store. You quickly relax knowing that you don’t have to go hungry in order to buy your medication. The Catholic Charities Hunger Project is a program that assists individuals and families that are living on a low or fixed income. To qualify for the program, at least one person in the household has to be 55 or older or has to be receiving disability benefits. They also need to be able to show proof of income and proof of residence. Participants are able to shop in our Grocery Store to supplement their low or non-existent food supply. Many of our clients have to sacrifice things such as medication, utilities, or rent in order to pay for food. This program helps them to keep the money they would use for food in order to pay for other necessities.
